There are some rumors among players that in the development for EverQuest II, a streaming client would alleviate the enormous download, which is a barrier to new players and anyone who's ever has to reinstall the game.

The EQII Lead Programmer, Greg "Rothgar" Spence, put the call out for testers for the open beta on the official forum which has just been released. This open beta was installed clean space in a new directory using the new client, to see how fast you can get into the game and download the client.

Players who still interest in the old patcher do not have to worry about the new client will force everyone in the old patcher go to the new one, as the old patcher will continue to work.
